Two formal dinners were held during May to celebrate The Thebe Tourism Group’s purchase of a 25% BEE equity stake in the R1.5-billion catering and support services Compass Group South Africa.
To formalise the alliance between the two groups, a dinner was hosted in May at the eMakhosini Boutique Hotel and Conference Centre in Durban and the Table Bay hotel in Cape Town.
South African television presenter and financial journalist, Siki Mgabadeli, was the master of ceremonies at both events, which was attended by management from both companies, as well as local business leaders and stakeholders.
Chris van Tonder, Executive Chef at the House of Bonne Cuisine, a division of Compass Group SA, was responsible for the delectable cuisine, prepared by students of the Compass Group Chef’s Academy.
Entertainment in Durban was provided by the smooth jazz sounds of the Natalie Rungan Jazz Band and accomplished young tenor, Kwazi Makhanya, who is a member of the Twenty Tenors for Twenty Ten, a showcase of South Africa’s best singing talent. In Cape Town the entertainment was provided by amongst others, the quirkily named afro jazz band ‘Breakfast included’.
The Durban and Cape Town events were preceded by a similar dinner in Johannesburg.
